Course Description and Supply List, Sashiko Class
Sashiko is a traditional embroidery technique originating in the north of Japan. It uses geometric and free form designs on plain indigo fabric and a special needle and heavyweight thread, usually white.
This class will cover the basics of this form and result in a sashiko piece which could be used for a pillow, small quilt, vest or anything of that ilk.
The instructor will provide a kit (for $10) which will include the fabric, sashiko needle, sashiko thread and equipment for transferring the design.
Mary Austin learned this technique while visiting Japan in 1996.
SUPPLY LIST
The class does NOT require a sewing machine. It is done completely by hand. Do bring scissors or snips, pins, a hera (Japanese marking tool) if you have it. If not, bring a ball point pen..
