Melody Johnson: The Fine Art of Fusing

Supply List

•No sewing machine required!!

•Rotary cutter and mat.  (Reversible mat/ironing surface is fine, but an additional cutting mat is helpful since we are cutting and ironing simultaneously).

•Sharp fabric and paper scissors (smaller fabric scissors are preferred)

•Travel iron  (Sunbeam makes a great one with a Teflon coating) and ironing surface, a thick towel or batting covered with cloth.

•Wonder-Under--as much as you can afford to bring. Melody will bring a 35 yd. bolt, but try Wal-Mart (.97 cents!) or JoAnn's for sale prices.

(DO NOT BRING   HEAT AND BOND or Steam a Seam II, which will not work for us.)

•Small pieces of cotton batting, approximately 18”x24”

•Sketchbook and pencil

•Fabric: We will only be using hand dyed fabrics, no batiks, no prints. You will need at least a fat quarter of several colors, values and textures.

A Fabric Kit consisting of two different half yards of hand-dyed rainbow cotton will be available from the instructor for $20. The colors in the fabric kit allow the student to have 8-12 colors in one piece, facilitating the exercises and producing optimal results.

Many of Melody's beautiful hand-dyed fabrics will also be available in class (for $5 per fat quarter,) and if you have some, bring them along too!
