Pacific Piecemakers Quilt Guild General Meeting

June 19, 2009

Meeting called to order by guild President Jan Carter at 1:00 p.m.

21 members were present.

Approval of the Minutes of the May 15, 2009 general meeting was motioned by Gail Spencer, seconded by Barbara Dunsmoor and carried.

Treasurer Kalynn Oleson reported a balance of $21,868.73 as of May 31, 2009.

Program Chair Mary Smith encouraged members to sign up for Cathryn Zeleny’s “The Value of Value” workshop Sept. 17, 2009 and passed around classroom samples.

Sylvia Edwards reported a net profit of $204 from “The Art Fair” held at G.A.C. Memorial Day weekend. It was a lot of work for little gain. We may have to reassess our participation in similar events in the future.

Tickets are now on sale at Gualala Arts Center for the beautiful “Art in the Redwoods” quilt made by Janet Windsor and Gail Sims.

Comfort Quilts: Polly said we have a good supply. Finish up ones you’ve started, then put them on the back burner. Work on Quilts of Valor or your own projects.  Reminder: comfort quilts need to be at least lap or crib size, 45” x 60”. The Loft offers a new throw size batting that’s 60”x60”.

Quilts of Valor: Marilyn said QOV recipients like to get personal notes with the quilts.  Red, white and blue quilts still are the preferred colors, but all are welcome.

Renata Lopez needs someone to chair the July 24 guild picnic. Please step up!  Carol Tackett will help with the holiday luncheon December 11th.

Membership:  Gail Spencer reports we have 108 members.  She will be unavailable this December; Kalynn Oleson has agreed to have dues checks mailed to her that month.

The sign-in table has been short handed, if you would like to be a greeter, see Jan Carter.

The deadline for the newsletter each month is the 25th.

Library: Anna Hines is selling books, and we have new books and videos in the library.

Hospitality: Lola thanked those who brought dessert.Volunteering on line works great.
Lola and Laura were thanked for providing lunch for today’s workshop.

Invitations from other guilds were read by Jan Carter, i.e: Rhododendron Show in Florence, OR.  Brochures for Asilomar’s “Empty Spools” are available in the upstairs cupboard at G.A.C.

Jan Carter mailed 24 ½ pounds of donated fabric to the nurse in El Centro, CA who requested fabric to make quilts for hospitalized children. Thanks to all.

New business: Lola said we’re nearly out of guild pins. A discussion ensued as to whether we should change the current design or color of our guild pin. Pins are sold for $5.00 each at The Loft, Clutterbug and at guild meetings.

Barbara Dunsmoor reported there were 19 students at Rosalie Dace’s 3 day class this month and students were “pushed beyond our boundaries”. She encourages people to bring show and tell from the class to the July picnic. They took Rosalie to the “Threads of Life” show in Mendocino. It’s rumored the Threads of Life group is bringing their show to Gualala Arts Center gallery this November.

Anita Kaplan is collecting ($125) checks for the February 8-11, 2010 Retreat at Dry Creek Inn, Healdsburg. The retreat will be 1:00 pm Feb 8 to 1:00 pm Feb 11, the day of checkout. Nineteen people have signed up.  The minimum is 22 and the maximum is 28, so if you’re interested, let Anita know right away. Mail your check made out to PPQG to Anita Kaplan, PO Box 15, Sea Ranch, CA 95497.  Each participant is responsible for making their own hotel reservation when Anita gives us the go-ahead.

There was no Show and Tell at today’s meeting, but we browsed one another’s work.

The name tag raffle was won by Diane Cunningham.

Meeting adjourned at 1:40 p.m.

Minutes respectfully taken by Gail Spencer for Jeri Taylor.
