Guild Glimmers

It was a glimmering show at Art in the Redwoods last month, and PPQG did itself proud with a large number of winning pieces.

Kathye Hitt garnered first place in the Quilt category with her piece called ÔTenetÕ, and Suzy Bates locked in second place with her piece entitled ÔWhy the World is Not WhiteÕ. Both pieces showed the talent of these women, and how much they have grown in the last couple of years.

Anita Kaplan took first in Fiber, Textile & Soft Sculpture with her amazing reconstructed dress called ÔClosuresÕ. One of the judges featured AnitaÕs work in her comments at the Champagne Reception.

And Jackie Gardener took third place in the collage category for her cabinet entitled ÔFour SquaresÕ.

            Well done all around!

Retreat News

Now that summer is ending it is time to start thinking about our wonderful retreat in January. There is still time to reserve your place. Last year we had 32 quilters in attendance who had a shockingly terrific time. We quilted, ate, quilted, soaked in the mineral springs, quilted, ate, quilted, dipped in the spa, kibbitzed, hiked, bought fabric in Ukiah, ate, gave lots of quilting advice, feasted on the delicious food provided, and partiedÉevery day for three days!!

Join us this year for more of the same. There are Mt. View singles available at $520, Creekside singles at $575, and two cottages which each accommodate two persons at $420/person. Prices include room & board. Twenty four of us are signed up and we are looking for just a few more good women. For more information about Vichy Springs Resort check out vichysprings.com. For reservations for the PPQG retreat email Anita at anita@anitakaplan.com. Retreat days are: arriving on Monday, January 29th, leaving on Thursday, February 1, 2007.

Quilts in the Resource Center

Many thanks to those who have been so generous with your art. ItÕs time to rotate the quilts that are hanging in the Elaine Jacob Resource Center (next to Rumors).

If you have a quilt that you can spare, please let me know and bring it to the September 15th Guild meeting.  This is a great way to share your work and brighten the space for the various groups who use this community facility.  If you have a quilt we can use or if you have questions, please  email jansears@mcn.org or call me at 785-3523.

There are two additions to our shelf this month:

Beautifully Embellished Landscapes by  Joyce Becker.   JoyceÕs techniques include paints, markers, stamps, photo printing and artwork, threadwork and more.  Create realistic special effects for water, reflections, skies, gardens, and buildings.

Clever Quarters - Quilts from Fat Quarters by Susan  Dissmore.  This book brings more ideas for great comfort quilts and ways to make inroads into that stash!

Mystery Quilters

Nearing the Home Stretch

The annual Mystery Quilt Challenge that was introduced in April nears the end with the posting of the September instructions on our website at www.pacificpiecemakers.org. Copies of prior monthÕs instructions and the September packet will also be available at the September Guild meeting.

Mystery Quilters have been creating individual blocks each month.  These will be easily assembled to create a wonderful unique pattern for the quilt. In October the final instructions will be distributed. This provides time for quilting or finishing up the quilt top. All of these beautiful quilts and quilt tops will be displayed at the Guild Holiday Party in December.

ItÕs NOT too late to start your own quilt. The instructions are on our website and you will see that each month involves about one hourÕs worth of work. So, just think, you could create the pieces to this quilt in one or two daysÉÉabout 8-10 hours.

If you need help or have questions please contact any one of our members. Donna Blum, Molly Buckley, Ruth Hayflick and Ellen Soule. They will be happy to help you.
